Weave

The Weave is an artificial construction that suffuses the entire spiritual ecosystem of Avendar. It was created principally by Rystaia with the aid of Jolinn during the War of Night using the salvaged divine corpus of the slain god Vaialos. Its purpose was originally to provide the necessary spiritual substrate to allow the ch'taren to avoid extinction, but it interacts subtly with every living thing that possesses a soul, as well as many of the unseen spiritual or astral beings of the Prime Material that existed before the Weave.

Manipulation of the Weave is possible with spirit magic and entire schools exist dedicated to the art. Many esoteric strange and esoteric spells are made possible by its existence, and the limits of what is possible are not fully known. As the Weave is composed of the energies of a god, albeit a dead one, it has been known to act in ways that are inexplicable or unpredictable, to the great frustration of more orderly-thinking scholars.

When properly attuned beings, including all ch'taren, die for the final time, they are subsumed into the Weave and undergo a kind of apotheosis. Their memories and personality are winnowed and their basic components recombined into new souls, which are reborn. The Weave infuses ch'taren with basic knowledge and understanding of the world, allowing them to speak within hours of being born and mature incredibly rapidly. The vastness and complexity of the Weave have thus far frustrated attempts to reproduce such things with magic, though more basic, general concepts or emotions may be evoked.
