Sacrificing to Gods

Syntax: Sacrifice <object> <deity>

The sacrifice command allows a character to turn an item currently in the room with them into a sacrifice to a specified deity. This will destroy the item (similar to the destroy command) and may result in the god smiling upon them. Not all items will be suitable sacrifices; items that cannot be destroyed cannot be sacrificed, and some will simply have no value to any god.

The gods are relatively easy to please; they are more likely to reward those who make offerings of high-level items or on an appropriate altar (those with the pious trait are always considered as being on an altar), but this is by no means necessary. Declared followers of a deity will receive more powerful effects from sacrifice to that god, and those with god touches will receive even greater results. However, the gods are not jealous; one may still be rewarded by a god one does not devote one's life to, even if sigiled by a different god.

Sacrificing may provide up to two effects, if noticed by the god. The secondary effect will always be provided to the god-touched; otherwise it may occur on the basis of the dedicant's offering, as well as previous offerings they have made. Some gods will cause these extra effects under other, unique circumstances instead.

Sacrifice now rewards gold or red resonance when sacrificing to good or evil deities. Neutral deities reward no resonance.

The effects of sacrifice are:

  • Aeoleri: Bonus to saves. There is a chance the dedicant's weapon will be enchanted to dispel evil once in combat.
  • Serachel: Bonus to saves. There is a chance to gain the skill Hide.
  • Alil: Bonus to charisma. The offered item will be metamorphized by Alil.
  • Chadraln: Gain resistance to magic. There is a chance to be affected with detect magic.
  • Jalassa: Bonus to hitroll. Chance to restore mana.
  • Alajial: Gain resistance to defilement. There is a chance She will shine the light of serenity upon the dedicant.
  • Jolinn: Gain resistance to fire. There is a chance to be affected by a glyph of frost (as if cast by one without the frostkin skill).
  • Lilune: Bonus to mana. Lilune will smile, for better or worse, if sacrificed to if one or both of the moons is full.
  • Dolgrael : Bonus to strength. He may repair the dedicant's weapon and provide it a temporary enchantment to hit and damroll.
  • Fenthira: Bonus to constitution. She will transform the item into a healthy, sustaining egg.
  • Sythrak: Bonus to damroll. Srryn will receive additional damroll.
  • Sitheus: Gain resistance to disease. A skeletal horror will rise somewhere nearby.
  • Girikha: Girikha has been “demoted”.
  • Calaera: Calaera has been demoted.
  • Rystaia: Gain resistance to negative. There is a chance a good-aligned shade will be called forth.
  • Vaialos: Aura becomes silver.
  • Elar: Bonus to hit points. She may attempt to mend the dedicant's wounds.
  • Lielqan: Bonus to saves. She may provide additional maximum deaths. The undead will never gain this benefit.
  • Ayaunj: Ayaunj will provide money for sacrifices, and may be sacrificed to far more frequently than other gods.
  • Bayyal: Gain resistance to cold. He may cause pyrotechnic effects.
  • Tzajai: Bonus to luck. Depending on his whim, the dedicant may be teleported.
  • Arkhural: Bonus to hitroll. He may offer bonus combat damage to the dedicant, as if they had been rallied in combat.
  • Ashur: Aura becomes black.
  • Rveyelhi: Gain resistance to light. He may enchant the dedicant with a blindness spell that will be released on their next opponent in combat.
  • Iandir: Gain resistance to physical. The bonus is increased for the lawful.
