Swordmasters are taught to meditate upon a blade, that they may become completely aware of its specific peculiarities and how best to accommodate them in the heat of battle. When used, attunement to a weapon will rise. This attunement translates to overpercent in the sword skill, allowing a swordmaster to have their sword skill higher than 100%. Any skill that uses that weapon will be better; see Overpercent for more information.
Improvements to attunement will start quicker, but will quickly slow down at a geometric rate as their attunement grows. A swordmaster may attune to as many swords as they wish, but attunement is on a per-sword basis; they will need to start attunement over on each new weapon. If a weapon is lost or destroyed, however, it may be replaced with an identical copy without losing their attunement. The overpercent being applied by attunement to the currently wielded weapon may be checked with the SKILLS command.
