With this ability, a mage adopted by the seraph Shathalith may invoke a portion of the archangel's knowledge of portals and summoning magic. By hastily opening an ephemeral passage through space, the scholar may step through to the other side of his opponent, causing his foe to miss as he swings at the empty air where the conjurer just was. Though this magic is innate rather than explicitly cast, avatars nonetheless have trouble channeling them, and will see a marked decrease in their effectiveness. No known mortal mage has the power to open such a portal twice in rapid succession; he must wait at least one round of combat before being able to open another. Certain warrior abilities which boost reaction speed -- such as form of the serpent -- may obviate the advantage of this power when used by the mage's opponent.
