Fighters have a chance to counterattack when they successfully parry or fend, while earth templars may only perform counterattacks when they successfully use stone phalanx. A counterattack deals more damage to characters not wearing a shield, or if the counterattack is attempted with a two-handed weapon. For a fighter to counterattack with a one-handed weapon, he must be wearing a shield.
