Characters with the magic aptitude trait allows spells to be cast at the minimum mana cost irrespective of level. Thus, spells become viable for repeated use significantly earlier than their spellcasting counterparts who do not have this trait.
All scholars automatically receive the this trait upon creation. Non-scholars who take this trait will also receive the amount of mana a scholar would when casting cantrips; iceshard, immolate, sandspray, lightning bolt, enervating ray, and searing light.
