If at any point a fighter with this skill hears someone casting a spell targeted at them, this skill gives them a chance to reduce the damage of that spell by one-sixth. This will not work if the figher is deafened or the caster is subvocalizing.
Additionally, this skill will slightly reduce all physical melee damage the fighter incurs.
