Those magi who take as patrons the archangels Adurranash, Cheloweven, or Ealaira learn to channel the full power of the positive planes into themselves, becoming for a time avatars of the divine. Each seraph's patronage lends itself to a different variant of this power, but all share common traits: an avatar may not, in general, speak, cast spells, nor be magically healed. Many beneficial abilities will be impaired by the excess energy surrounding the avatar, some to the point of outright prevention. An avatar always strikes with holy power, and with far greater facility and strength than is any mage's normal wont. Avatars also gain substantial hit points and resistance to damage from all evil beings, who are hard-pressed to stand against such holy might. While in avatar form, a caster will forgo natural mana regeneration, and shall instead be drained regularly by the effort of maintaining such power. When the caster grows too weary to hold the energy together anymore, she will return to her natural state, much the worse for the wear, and possibly being rendered unconscious. It willl then be some time before she can call upon these powers again, and during this time she will suffer a penalty to hit points and mana.

While in avatar form, the caster will find it impossible to call upon any rune of spirit she may have in existence.

An avatar of the lodestar invokes a portion of Adurranash's charisma, granting a small bonus to damage done by groupmates -- not the avatar herself -- if the leader of a group. Unlike most avatars, one such as this may still speak, but only in yells. While too blunt an instrument for careful magical workings, this does permit the use of certain abilities normally barred to avatars, in particular triumphant shout and roar of the exalted. This is the least defensive of the avatar variants, gaining a lesser bonus to hit points and resistances in favor of striking harder and more often.

An avatar of the protector takes upon herself the seraph Ealaira's mandate to ward others. At the time of ascending into this form, all hostile attention currently focused on the caster's group will instead be focused on the caster herself; furthermore, the mage gains the rescue skill while channeling these holy magics. This is the least offensive of the avatar variants, focusing more on hit points and resistances than bonuses to attacks.

An avatar of the annointed draws upon Cheloweven's silent strength, capturing a portion of her skill in combat. Such an avatar is the most draining of the three variants, but also possesses the most facility with combat, gaining the use of the batter, feint, and pugil skills.
